A press report stated that Portugal's national team coach, Jorge Jesus, may face disciplinary action related to the dispute with the team's legendary captain, Cristiano Ronald
Surprise... Portugal's coach could face punishment because of Ronaldo
Ronaldo, 41, left the Portugal national team camp hours before their third Nations League match against Denmark, following a dispute with Jesus.
Jesus did not include the veteran star in the second round match against Norway, which angered the captain, given that the coach had promised him 30 minutes to play against Norway, according to a statement later issued by Ronaldo.
In his statement, Ronaldo accused his coach of breaking his promise more than once, noting that: "I have never, at any moment, interfered in any technical or tactical decision of any coach or national team coach during my nearly 25 years of career. I accept, better or worse, what is asked of me."
He added: "I respect the decision, but when a promise is broken to me, I feel that my place is not there..."
The Portuguese newspaper "Correio da Manhã" reported that Jesus could face disciplinary action from the Portuguese Football Federation, due to what it described as the possibility of inappropriate behavior by the national team coach towards the team captain.
This comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding the nature of the relationship between Jorge Jesus and Cristiano Ronaldo, with anticipation building for what developments may bring in the coming period.
The Portuguese Football Federation has not officially announced any disciplinary measures regarding Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from the training camp.
Portuguese press reports revealed attempts to contain the crisis amicably and bring the views of Jorge Jesus and Cristiano Ronaldo closer.
