"I realized that loyalty is the number one priority, and there are many smart people. So I always emphasize that all leaders want to succeed, and they can't possibly play a one-man show alone . It's impossible. They become strong when they have a group, supporters," Tito said.
On that occasion, the Minister of Home Affairs explained that one of the strategic positions undergoing changes was the Inspector General of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He stated that this position has a special role in fostering and overseeing regional government administration.
The Inspectorate General (Itjen) of the Ministry of Home Affairs differs from inspectorates in other ministries. Under Law No. 23 of 2014 concerning Regional Government, the Inspectorate General coordinates the development and supervision of regional government inspectorates , both at the provincial and district/city levels throughout Indonesia.
"We also have the authority, based on law, to conduct investigations into regional governments, which cannot be carried out by other ministries/institutions administratively, except for criminal matters," he explained.
He also asked the Inspectorate General to establish good relations with the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) and the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) to follow up on audit findings and strengthen the internal oversight system.
The Minister of Home Affairs also encouraged the implementation of regular online meetings with regional inspectors to strengthen coordination between the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Home Affairs and regional inspectorates.
"I've also entrusted the Inspector General with promoting a healthy internal system, a sound bureaucracy. The Inspector General's task is significant, especially given the division of regions and the presence of special inspectors for inspections," he explained.
