The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs anticipates increasing cybersecurity threats

The Ministry of Communication and Digital is anticipating increasing cybersecurity threats, including those arising from the development of quantum technology.

"To address cyber threats in the quantum technology era, we are starting to explore what we call post-quantum cryptography ," said Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria after the Bali Tech Week  2026 event.

Nezar stated that the development of quantum technology and artificial intelligence (AI) presents new challenges for cybersecurity.

According to information published on the official website of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, quantum technology is a technological innovation that combines the principles of quantum mechanics with information science theory.

Derivatives of quantum technology include Quantum Computation, Quantum Communication, and Quantum Sensing.

The development of quantum technology has the potential to create more complex cyber threats. Post-quantum cryptography is designed to counter potential cyberattacks from quantum computers.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital coordinates with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency  in an effort to maintain cybersecurity.

In addition to highlighting cybersecurity issues, Nezar conveyed the importance of preparing digital infrastructure such as fiber optic networks, submarine cables, and satellites to support the use of new technologies.
