The promotional team No Limit Boxing announced the fight via their X account, without yet revealing the date or location of the bout, with details to be announced later.
Tim Tso is 31 years old, while Lara, 43, who has held the WBA title since 2023, has a professional record of 32 wins, three losses and three draws.
In contrast, the Australian boxer achieved 28 wins against three losses.
Tso had his last fight on July 26, when he defeated American Errol Spence by unanimous decision, securing another victory before the anticipated challenge against the veteran Cuban boxer.
The fight is expected to be an important test for Tso in his quest for a new world title, against Lara, who has extensive experience in the boxing ring and has been defending his title since 2023.
Tim Tso is the son of boxing legend Kostya Tso, the former world champion who entered the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2011, after achieving a historic feat by unifying the WBA, WBC and IBF super lightweight titles in 2001.
Tim followed in his father's footsteps, making his way in the world of professional boxing and continuing the family legacy in the boxing ring.
