UN 700,000 children in Gaza Strip lack proper education

Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, said that around 700,000 school-age children in the Gaza Strip are not receiving proper education due to the destruction of schools.

"Since 2023, the education system in Gaza has been in ruins, causing approximately 700,000 school-age children to miss out on a decent education, as schools there have been damaged or destroyed," Nebenzia told the UN Security Council.

Nebenzia added that access to education in crisis-stricken areas is a very concerning issue.

Although a ceasefire has been in effect in the Gaza Strip since October 2025, the Israeli military continues to launch attacks on the Palestinian territory, claiming that their targets are facilities belonging to Hamas and members of the Palestinian resistance movement.

According to the UN assessment, the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains extremely dire, marked by widespread destruction, disruption to medical facilities, and ongoing challenges in providing food and basic necessities to the local population.
