Varrel/Wardana stopped in the semifinals of the Indonesia Masters

Indonesian mixed doubles pair Varrel Yustin Mulia/Bernadine Anindya Wardana were knocked out in the semifinals of the Indonesia Masters, after losing two straight games to the Chinese representatives at the Djarum Arena GOR Kudus.

Varrel/Wardana lost against Chinese representatives, Li Hong Yi/Huang Ke Xin in three games with a score of 22-24, 23-21, 21-14.

Wardana admitted after the match that he had played well at the start, but lacked consistency, leading to the loss. He should have had a chance to win the first game.

"The opponent does have an advantage in terms of attack, so they are quite dominant in attacking because both are supported by tall postures," he said.

According to him, this is one of the things that we still need to anticipate and improve in the future.

Meanwhile, Varrel admitted that even though he lost, he was still grateful to have finished without any injuries.

"Yes, in the second game, we actually understood what we had to do on the court. We played more calmly in the second set and also read the pattern more accurately," he said.

However, he said, in the third game he and his partner lost consistently and made several mistakes, after previously being able to be consistent and focused.

"We're still grateful to have reached the semifinals. There's certainly still a lot to improve, especially in terms of consistency and focus during matches. We also need to be able to play more calmly, maintain the tempo, and implement the right game plan in any situation," he said.

Meanwhile, Huang admitted that he was under pressure in the second game, but thanks to the support of his coach, he was finally able to play optimally.

To face the final, said Li Hong, he will ask his seniors because the opponents he will face will also be senior players who are experienced.
