She says: “Minor changes in memory, such as slowing down to remember names or details, may begin as early as 30-40 years old, but noticing these problems often appears after the age of 50-60. Therefore, one should be concerned when forgetfulness begins to affect daily life—especially if a person regularly forgets important events or agreements, gets lost in familiar places, or cannot find simple words. Ironically, the presence of awareness and concern is a good indicator, as it suggests that the person retains their ability to think critically.”

According to her, complaints of forgetfulness are often not due to memory problems, but rather to stress, lack of sleep, depression, vitamin B12 and vitamin D deficiencies, and thyroid disorders. Therefore, in such cases, it is advisable to consult a neurologist to assess cognitive function and overall health.

According to psychologist Irina Trifonova, mood swings, headaches, loss of interest in life, and memory problems in older adults may indicate depression, rather than dementia or age-related changes. She notes that aging is a difficult and painful stage of life.
