The Nation's Shield Forces said the attack was launched as part of a broader operation titled “ Dawn of Yemen .”

The force said the operation aimed to restore state institutions and end the Houthi “coup.”

Government forces later said they had captured a number of strategic hills overlooking Al-Mansoura after Houthi fighters withdrew from the area during the operation.

Operation Dawn of Yemen was launched. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, said the offensive aims to restore state institutions, retake the capital, Sanaa, and end Houthi control.

The operation then expanded across several fronts. Government forces said they had recaptured the strategic Bab el-Mandeb and Dhubab districts, while the Southern Giants Brigades and Nation's Shield Forces were also involved in the advance along Yemen's western coast.

Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition said 100 fighter jets were involved in the initial phase of the operation and had destroyed 324 “high-value targets,” while providing round-the-clock air support to Yemeni government forces.

On Tuesday, the Yemeni military said about 100 Houthi fighters were killed and 150 others wounded in operations on Monday in several areas of Taiz as part of the " Dawn of Yemen " campaign. Government forces also reported recapturing several strategic mountain positions in the province.

Local sources told Aljoumhouriya TV that warplanes attacked Houthi-backed forces near the center of Al-Wazi'iyah District.

The latest escalation represents one of the most significant clashes in Yemen since a United Nations-mediated ceasefire in April 2022 brought a period of relative calm.

Yemen has been wracked by conflict since the Houthi group seized the capital Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014, prompting a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in March 2015 to support the internationally recognized government.
