America after the renewal: The presidential battle begins

American economist Jeffrey Sachs believes that the United States is entering a politically charged phase after the midterm elections, focusing attention on the upcoming presidential race.

The economist said that the United States is entering a phase of intense political campaigning following the midterm congressional elections , as the attention of American politicians will be primarily focused on the 2028 presidential election.

US midterm elections: A significant breakthrough for progressives
The midterm elections for the United States Congress were held on November 3rd, resulting in the Democrats gaining control of both houses. According to NBC's updated projections, the Democrats are projected to win 259 seats in the House of Representatives compared to 176 for the Republicans. So far, the Democrats have secured 242 seats and the Republicans 151, while the official vote count is still underway.

Sachs told Novosti: "The United States is entering a period of intense campaigning ahead of the 2028 presidential election, and government policy will be at a standstill, with not much happening."

American media outlets indicate that, following this victory, the Democrats intend to focus on reducing the cost of living and strengthening parliamentary oversight of the administration's performance. In contrast, US President Donald Trump retains the power to veto bills passed by Congress, as well as broad executive powers.

The new Congress is scheduled to begin its work on January 3, 2027.

The Israeli consul in New York, Ofir Akunis, announced that many American Jews intend to immigrate to Israel following the Democratic Party's recent victory in the congressional elections.

He wrote on the X platform: "The next government in Israel must prepare for a massive wave of immigration from North America and the United States in particular. I said this half a year ago, and I repeat it today."

A poll showed that 72% of Jews voted for the Democratic Party in the midterm elections, the same percentage recorded in 2024.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported that the Ministry of Defense and the Israeli army were surprised by President Trump's announcement to halt security and financial aid to Israel by the end of this year.
