The system was installed at the Galaxy AI complex in Ulaanchap, Inner Mongolia. Envision Energy announced the launch of the new technology on November 2nd.

Data centers typically receive alternating current (AC) from the electrical grid, while servers require direct current (DC). To deliver this DC power to the equipment, the electricity must be converted multiple times using additional devices. Here, solid-state transformers directly convert 10 kilovolts (kV) to 800 volts (DC).

The higher voltage allows for the transmission of the same power at a lower current. According to the developers, this technology reduces the number of cables and devices, freeing up space for servers. Battery power smooths out voltage fluctuations, while the Dubhe Controller AI system adapts the power supply to the equipment's needs.

The Galaxy AI complex began operations in August 2026. It is planned to expand to 3 gigawatts of capacity and accommodate up to one million AI accelerators in the future. This equipment performs the complex calculations necessary to train and run neural networks.

Envision Energy anticipates that over 80% of the complex's electricity will come directly from renewable sources in the future. The company is also currently developing Mission Gobi, which aims to establish renewable energy-powered data processing centers with a total capacity of 5 gigawatts in desert regions across various countries by 2030.

Envision Vice President Kevin Huang said, "This technology is an important step from idea to practical application."
