This came in a report presented by the academic during his participation in the "Golden Valley" scientific forum
The report noted that “Russia, given its regional characteristics of specific climate changes, the development of the energy sector, its vast reserves of natural resources, particularly fossil fuels and forests, as well as its vast area and cold climate, is experiencing a rate of global warming that is 2.5 times higher than the global average.”
The academician stated that Russia is also the coldest country in the world, consuming approximately half of the world's total heat. Alexeyenko believes that the country's high thermal energy needs make relying on wind and solar power development an inefficient option, given their inability to provide sufficient heat.
He explained that one possible solution lies in developing geothermal energy, by utilizing the heat found deep in the earth, at a depth of up to 20 kilometers, where temperatures range between 300 and 400 degrees Celsius, using microwave heating techniques inside the wells.
In this context, the academician pointed to the establishment of the National Center of Competence in the field of geothermal energy in the Kamchatka Peninsula in eastern Russia.
The scientist also pointed out that the development of combined cycle gas power plants is a promising technology in Russia, as it allows for the use of gas more efficiently and in a more environmentally friendly way, as well as reducing carbon dioxide emissions and fuel consumption by up to 50%.
The expert said that gas is the cleanest type of fossil fuel, stressing the importance of using it optimally.
The fourth Golden Valley Scientific and Production Forum is being held at Novosibirsk State University on October 29 and 30. The forum, which brings together scientists, business leaders, and representatives from federal and local authorities, will discuss a number of topics, including industry-oriented technologies, accelerating the application of scientific innovations, and joint projects between scientific institutions and the business sector.
