Global Health: We will lift the Corona emergency this year The World Health Organization intends to lift the state of emergency related to the Covid-19 pandemic during the current year, the director of the organization announced today, Thursday.  Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, said today, Thursday, that he expects the organization to lift the state of emergency related to the Covid-19 pandemic sometime this year, without providing a specific time frame.  WHO continues to consider COVID-19 a Public Health Emergency of International Concern more than three years after its original assessment.  "I think we will be able to raise it this year," the organization's director added.  The panel of experts on the status of the pandemic is scheduled to meet in May.  The World Health Organization meets every few months to decide whether the new coronavirus, which emerged three years ago in Wuhan, China and has killed 6.6 million people, still constitutes a "global public health emergency".  This aims to coordinate the global response and would unlock funding for collaboration in sharing vaccines and treatments.
