One stone refugee camp is forcing more than a hundred Muslims to serve in the military

Rakhine state Residents told RFA that military council troops arrived at the Kyauketsa Muslim refugee camp in Kyauk Phyu Township at around one o'clock in the afternoon on February 27 and asked more than a hundred refugees to serve in the military.

Names and personal information of 107 male refugees between the ages of 18 and 35 were collected, he said.

Army Council Chamber (34), A local resident of the Kyauktsa refugee camp, who did not want to be named for security reasons, told RFA that more than 80 people from the 31st police battalion and the Kyaukphyu police station came and asked for military training.

"They said that they will give military training orally from the morning of the 28th. And the next day they will equip the weapon. He said that he did not have to serve in the military. We do not ask for our consent; They threatened to kill me if I tried to escape.”

On the way back from the refugee camp, two unidentified men aged 22 and over 30 were abducted from the camp.

In addition, since past four o'clock last night, more than 30 military council troops have been stationed around the camp and the refugees have been blocked from going out, said the local resident.

RFA contacted Rakhine State Attorney General U Hla Thein, who is the spokesperson of the military council, by phone regarding this matter, but he did not answer the phone.

The Military Council has denied reports from Myanmar Light newspaper today that it is recruiting Rohingya refugees from Rakhine state to serve in the military.

There are currently 375 households in the refugee camp, which is about four miles away from Kyauk Phyu. There are nearly 1,100 people, most of whom are Kaman people, and they have moved because of the conflict that happened in 2012.

26 groups request the Security Council to protect the Rohingya

On February 28, 26 international Rohingya groups demanded that the United Nations Security Council take action against the increasing oppression of the Rohingya.

He also said that the Security Council would like to avoid making the same mistake as it did before the 2016-17 period.

Now in the refugee camps in Rakhine state, the military council says that forcing the Rohingyas to join the army under the law of conscription is a big danger.

The Burmese army is rapidly losing a lot of territory to the Rakhine army. In this situation, the 26 groups said that the Burmese army is taking the Rohingya into the war and fighting back against the Rakhine army.

Today's Myanmar Light newspaper reported that the Rakhine state spokesman appointed by the military council said that the Rohingyas are forced to join the army by law and are not required to serve in the military.

But the 26 groups said that the Rohingyas do not want to fight for the Burmese army, which committed ethnic cleansing against them. It has also been pointed out that if the Burmese army joins and protects the Rohingya, the Rohingya and the Rakhine will have to live peacefully together in Rakhine State.

It is written in the request that Rohingya civilians are now between the two armies and these people living in refugee camps have no place to run.

Therefore, at the very least, the British government should call an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council and discuss the ICJ international court's decision on Myanmar and the lack of action, 26 international Rohingya groups urged.
