Jakarta - The Ministry of Transmigration (Kementrans) has invited the Batam City Government Riau Islands Province, to collaborate in developing the Batam-Rempang-Galang Local Transmigration Area to support the development of the Rempang Eco City National Strategic Project .
"After receiving permission, authority, and appreciation from President Prabowo Subianto regarding the Barelang Transmigration Area, we must immediately show actions that are beneficial to the community," said Minister of Transmigration Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara in Jakarta, Tuesday.
He stated that the development of the local transmigration area was an effort to provide a solution to resolve land conflicts over the customary land rights of local communities due to the development of the Rempang PSN.
Iftitah said that a local transmigration program could be a better solution than relocation efforts that were rejected by some local people.
He said that relocation efforts only move the location of residents' settlements, while the transmigration program also prioritizes aspects of welfare, education, health services, and job creation so that population movement can have positive social and economic impacts.
"This is a new paradigm of transmigration. Later, we will take over the solution of the long-standing conflict that opposes the Rempang Eco City PSN, for the welfare of the local community," he said.
