Observers recommend transparency to maintain economic sustainability

Jakarta - Law and development observer from Airlangga University, Hardjuno Wiwoho, advised the government to enforce policy transparency to maintain economic sustainability.

"We must start talking honestly and transparently. This is about the future of the country. There must be a comprehensive and realistic solution," Hardjuno said in his statement in Jakarta, Friday.

He highlighted the economic conditions which have been experiencing turmoil in recent times.

One example is the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate. He argued that the position of the rupiah exchange rate which almost resembles the point in the 1998 monetary crisis does not reflect the fundamental conditions of the Indonesian economy honestly.

On the other hand, he also warned about the development of BPI Danantara. With such large assets under management, he hopes Danantara can contribute to closing the country's debt.

However, he appreciated President Prabowo Subianto's move to take a policy of efficiency in government spending budget. However, this policy also needs to be followed up with a concrete big plan and not just short-term.
