Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed to maintain strong economic and trade cooperation, especially after United States President Donald Trump announced his reciprocal tariff policy for a number of countries, including Indonesia and the European Union.
Both expressed their commitment to maintaining good relations in a telephone conversation on Friday evening (4/4), two days after United States President Donald Trump announced his latest import tariff policy.
President Prabowo, in his official social media account @prabowo in Jakarta, Saturday, assessed that the strategic cooperation between Indonesia and France not only reflects the national interests of each country, but also contributes to the stability and prosperity of the region and the world.
"In discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron, we agreed to continue to encourage inclusive and sustainable economic development for the welfare of the people," said President Prabowo.
Prabowo then welcomed France's commitment to enhancing a strong and visionary bilateral partnership between the two countries.
"Let us strengthen synergy and build a future for mutual progress," Prabowo continued.
On a separate occasion, President Macron revealed the contents of his conversation with Prabowo via his official social media account @EmmanuelMacron, Friday night Paris time. President Macron shared the contents of his meeting with Prabowo in Indonesian.
"We have decided to strengthen the ties between our countries with ambitious and forward-looking projects. This historic approach that we are preparing will be realized during my state visit to Indonesia at the end of May," President Macron said.
Macron continued that he and President Prabowo agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of defense, economy, science and culture, as well as expand the scope of cooperation in the field of education.
Macron also mentioned several cooperation priorities for France and the European Union with Indonesia, including creating a resilient value chain, especially in the critical metals sector, and supporting the energy transition from fossil fuels to new and renewable energy (EBT).
In the same conversation, Prabowo and Macron also emphasized their respective commitments to supporting the realization of peace in the Middle East, and ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.
