In a statement published by the Palestinian News Agency, WAFA, Abbas called for an immediate and permanent halt to the Israeli aggression, the release of all detainees and prisoners, and a complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. He emphasized that Gaza is "an integral part of the State of Palestine" and that the time has come for everyone to assume their historical responsibilities toward the Palestinian people.
He pointed out that this moment requires "exceptional courage," as it represents a gateway to reconstruction and a halt to settlement activity, leading to the implementation of the two-state solution based on international legitimacy resolutions, and the achievement of the independence of the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In a related context, Abbas emphasized the importance of the international peace conference scheduled to be held in New York next month, expressing his hope that it would contribute to implementing the two-state solution, enhancing international recognition of the State of Palestine, and ensuring its full membership in the United Nations.
The Palestinian president welcomed the supportive international stances, particularly the joint statement by the leaders of Britain, France, and Canada, the positions of the European Union and donor countries, and the statement of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee, all of which emphasized the need to stop the war, lift the siege, and ensure unhindered access to humanitarian aid.
Abbas thanked the countries and peoples who support the Palestinian people and demand an end to the war of extermination. He called for the opening of land, sea, and air borders to allow aid to enter the country, affirming the State of Palestine's readiness to cooperate with any party serious about ending the suffering of Palestinians and supporting the reconstruction plan without displacement.
He concluded by saying, "This is a crucial historical moment that requires unprecedented, courageous positions and concerted Arab, Islamic, and international efforts to uphold Palestinian rights, ensure respect for international law, implement international legitimacy resolutions, end aggression and colonialism, achieve independence, and establish peace."
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been committing genocidal crimes in Gaza, leaving more than 175,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands displaced.
