Elderly population increases, Ministry of Health encourages elderly to stay healthy and active

Head of the Vulnerable Age Health Services Department Working Team of the Ministry of Health dr Ari Setyaningrum, Sp.KO said that his party continues to encourage improving the quality of life of the elderly so that they remain productive in old age.

"The Ministry of Health has a Health for the Elderly program, which aims to improve the quality of life of the elderly so that they not only live long, but also remain healthy, independent, and active in activities," said Dr. Ari.

He referred to the results of the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) which recorded that around 1.2 percent of elderly people aged 60–69 years experienced an increased level of dependency. This dependency is characterized by a decrease in daily activities to bed rest conditions that risk triggering complications such as pressure sores.

"Elderly people who experience heavy dependency such as bed rest are very susceptible to pressure sores. This is a serious challenge that must be prioritized," he said.
