Obyn Specialist of University of Indonesia Hospital (RSUI) Dr. dr. Fernandi, Sp.OG (K) said along with increasing age in women and pregnancy can cause a decrease in the strength of the pelvic muscles in supporting vital organs.
"Actually, as women get older, their hormones run out, all their organs weaken (including weakening of the pelvic muscles)," said Dr. Fernandi while talking to ANTARA in Jakarta, Wednesday.
He added that, apart from age factors, pelvic muscles in women basically function to support important organs such as the uterus and intestines, and also function to support other loads such as supporting the baby in the womb.
"The muscles have to stretch when the baby is born so that the baby can be born," he said.
