Government learns from Australia about social media restrictions for children.

Indonesian Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid said that the government is learning from Australia about implementing rules restricting the use of social media for children.

Australia has enacted the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024 , which includes restrictions on social media use for children.

As quoted in the ministry's press release in Jakarta, Friday, Meutya said that the Online Safety Amendment Act (Minimum Age for Interacting with Social Media) 2024 in Australia is similar to Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 concerning Governance of the Implementation of Electronic Systems in Child Protection or PP Tunas in Indonesia.

"So, earlier we talked about social media restrictions for certain ages, they also have age delays," he said after accompanying President Prabowo Subianto to receive a visit from Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the Merdeka Palace, .

"We are talking about how to implement it in the future so that it can really be carried out well," he said.

Efforts to ensure the implementation of child protection regulations in the digital space include joint campaigns involving all elements of society.
