Syria: Security forces seize a huge warehouse in Latakia containing explosive devices "prepared for detonation."

"In a precise and accurate security operation, the Lattakia Security Directorate seized a huge warehouse in the village of Bahmera in the Qardaha countryside, containing explosive devices prepared for detonation. The devices were intended to target safe areas and destabilize the situation," the statement said.

This operation comes as part of ongoing efforts to pursue outlaw cells and thwart their plans before they are implemented, reflecting the vigilance of security agencies and their commitment to the safety and security of citizens, according to the ministry.

On March 6, the Syrian coastal region witnessed security tensions following coordinated attacks by remnants of the Assad regime—the most violent since the regime's fall—against security patrols and checkpoints, resulting in deaths and injuries.

Since the ouster of the Assad regime in December 2024, the Military Operations Directorate has opened settlement centers for members of the ousted regime to surrender their weapons. However, the refusal of some members has led to clashes in several governorates.

The new Syrian administration is also working to control the country's security situation and pursue remnants of the former regime who are causing security disturbances, particularly in the coastal region, a stronghold of senior officers of the Assad regime and his sect.

On December 8, Syrian factions took control of the country, ending 61 years of Ba'ath Party rule and 53 years of Assad regime control.
