Real Madrid are reportedly finalizing an agreement with Xabi Alonso to become their new head coach as soon as possible, in order to prepare the team for this summer's Club World Cup.
Quoting ESPN, both Alonso and Madrid management agreed that an early appointment was essential given the limited preparation time ahead of the 2025–2026 LaLiga season, which will start just a month after the tournament ends.
One of the important conditions of this deal is the approval of Bayer Leverkusen, the club that still has a contract with Alonso. However, this will not be an obstacle given the good relationship between the two clubs.
Alonso himself announced his resignation from Leverkusen on Friday last week, saying it was the "right moment" to move on to a new challenge. He added that he would announce his next move in the near future.
