Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital explains AI governance preparation at London Tech Week

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria explained the preparation of governance for the development and utilization of artificial intelligence ( AI ) in Indonesia at the London Tech Week 2025 event.

While speaking at a discussion event entitled The Asia Get Together at the London Tech Week 2025 event on Monday (9/6), Nezar said that innovation must go hand in hand with governance.

"Indonesia's approach is rooted in a dual commitment: enabling agile innovation and protecting democratic values," he was quoted as saying in a ministry press release in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Nezar said that the Indonesian government has begun to utilize AI to modernize the provision of public services, support agricultural activities, transform education, and expand financial inclusion.

However, he continued, the government still faces challenges in trying to provide digital infrastructure evenly.

"As an archipelagic nation with more than 17,000 islands, ensuring equitable digital infrastructure, from broadband to cloud services , across urban and remote areas is a key task," he said.

In addition, the government needs long-term investment and international collaboration in organizing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education to develop digital talent in the field of AI.
