DPR member: Revocation of IUP in Raja Ampat regulates mining sector

Member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Doni Akbar, appreciated the government's firm steps in revoking the nickel mining business permit (IUP) in the Raja Ampat region, Southwest Papua, as an important step in structuring the mining sector.

"This is an important step in structuring the mining sector, which has often caused social conflict and irreparable ecosystem damage," said Doni in a statement received in Jakarta, Friday.

According to him, President Prabowo Subianto's government has restored the country's authority by siding with the interests of the people, especially the Papuan people.

"This proves that the state is there for the people, especially the Papuan people," he said.

He said the Raja Ampat area was a critical point between economic interests, environmental sustainability and respect for the rights of indigenous peoples.

"High appreciation to the government for its decision to revise mining permits in the small islands located in conservation areas, especially Raja Ampat as a world asset that needs to be protected in the future," he said.
