Fidan criticizes international silence: Israel is dragging the region into a "complete catastrophe" with its ongoing aggression

This came in a speech delivered on Saturday during the opening session of the 51st Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul.

Fidan emphasized that Türkiye, under its current rotating presidency of the OIC, will continue to raise the voice of the Islamic world, prioritize global justice, and stand firmly against injustice.

Regarding the ongoing Israeli aggression, Fidan emphasized that the problem concerns Israel, not Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, or Iran. He emphasized that the international silence has encouraged Israel to commit these crimes.

He emphasized that "the Palestinian issue is the key to all other issues and crises in the region." Fidan noted that Türkiye is making every effort to find radical solutions to Israel's massacres in the region.

The 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states kicked off today, Saturday, in Istanbul, chaired by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Approximately 40 officials at the prime minister and foreign minister levels are participating in the two-day session.

Approximately 1,000 participants from the 57 OIC member states, as well as OIC affiliated institutions, observer states, and other international organizations, will also attend.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the meeting and delivered a speech. A special session is expected to be held later to discuss the Israeli aggression against Iran, which began on June 13.

Special sessions will be held later to discuss developments in the Israeli genocide in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023, and left approximately 186,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, as well as other issues of concern to the Islamic world.

Türkiye hosted the meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in 1976, 1991 and 2004.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (formerly the Organization of the Islamic Conference) was established at a summit held in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, on September 25, 1969, in response to the Israeli burning of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem.
