Former combatants of the Aceh Retreat Movement (GAM) expressed their appreciation and gratitude to President Prabowo Subianto for returning four islands to Aceh that previously belonged to North Sumatra Province.
"We from the GAM side, thank you very much to the President who has decided that the four islands do belong to Aceh," said the Chairman of Mualimin Aceh and Deputy Commander of GAM Center, Darwis Jeunib, in Banda Aceh, Tuesday.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto determined that four islands that were in dispute over the boundaries between Aceh and North Sumatra would return to the administrative area of Aceh Province.
The four islands that have returned to the Aceh Singkil Regency, Aceh, are Panjang Island, Lipan Island, Mangkir Kecil Island, and Mangkir Besar Island.
According to him, the decision to return the status of the four islands back to Aceh was considered because President Prabowo Subianto knew the history of Aceh.
"I would like to say thank you three times, Mr. President is truly extraordinary, Mr. President knows the history of Aceh," said the former GAM Commander for the Batee Ilik Region, Bireuen Regency, Aceh.
In addition, he also hopes that the President will always pay attention to peace in Aceh, and can complete the points stated in the Helsinki MoU agreement for the common interest.
"We also hope that no one will seize Aceh's borders again. We decided according to the Helsinki MoU agreement," said Darwis Jeunib.
