Hundreds of street vendors who were victims of extortion by thugs at Kramat Jati Market were relocated

Hundreds of street vendors who were victims of extortion by thugs disguised as community organizations at the Kramat Jati Main Market, East Jakarta, have been relocated.

"Most of them, traders who were initially informal traders, have moved into the place that we have arranged. The total relocation is approximately 271 traders," said Kramat Jati Main Market Manager Agus Lamun when confirmed in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Informal traders are people who carry out trading activities in a manner that does not comply with formal regulations, do not have a permit or official place of sale.

They are often referred to as street vendors (PKL) and sell on the roadside, sidewalks or other public places.

Agus said that the arrangement will be carried out in stages so that the street vendors are willing to be relocated to a new location and no longer sell their wares in front of the entrance to the official traders' stalls of the Kramat Jati Main Market.
