The youngest son of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo or Jokowi, Kaesang Pangarep, confirmed that his father will not register as a candidate for general chairman in the 2025 Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) General Election.
He admitted that he had discussed this matter with Jokowi over the past week.
" It's impossible for a son and a father to compete with each other," said Kaesang in a press conference after officially registering as a candidate for PSI general chairman in Jakarta, Saturday.
Kaesang has also convinced Jokowi to give young people the opportunity to become future leaders.
Meanwhile, regarding the potential for Jokowi to join PSI, he said there was no such potential and asked to ask his father directly.
"Access to him (Jokowi) is now easy, just go to Solo. I ca n't represent him," he said.
Previously, PSI opened up opportunities for Jokowi to become the party's general chairman, but with the condition that he must first join as a cadre. The discourse emerged along with Jokowi's closeness to PSI in several political agendas ahead of the 2024 Election.
Meanwhile, Jokowi admitted that he was still calculating his chances of winning if he registered to run as a candidate for PSI general chairman.
He admitted that he did not want to lose if he had decided to fight for the PSI 1 seat, which is currently occupied by his youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep.
"Yes, it is still being calculated. Don't let it happen that if I join, I lose," said Jokowi, Wednesday (14/5).
Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Golkar Party DPP Muhammad Sarmuji left the decision to the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to join a political party (parpol), be it the Golkar Party or the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).
However, he emphasized that Jokowi must communicate with his party first if Jokowi really wants to join the Golkar Party.
