Google has begun rolling out an artificial intelligence (AI)-based news summary feature on the Discover page, the main news page in the Google app on iOS and Android.
displaying headlines from a single media outlet, users will now see the logos of several news publishers in the top left corner, followed by an AI-generated news summary and a mention of the original source.
Google warns that these summaries are AI-generated and “can make mistakes.” While the feature isn’t rolling out to all news stories yet, testing shows that the summaries are already appearing in the Google app in the United States, on both iOS and Android devices.
A Google representative confirmed that this isn't a limited test, but rather an official rollout in the United States. The feature is currently focused on trending lifestyle topics like sports and entertainment.
Google claims this feature will make it easier for users to decide which pages they want to visit.
