The Public Prosecutor of the Medan District Attorney's Office , North Sumatra, is demanding the death penalty for the defendant notary Tiromsi Sitanggang (58), suspected of committing premeditated murder against her husband Rusman Maralen Situngkir.
"Requesting that the panel of judges sentence defendant Tiromsi Sitanggang to the death penalty," said Medan District Attorney's Public Prosecutor Risnawati Ginting at the Medan District Court.
The public prosecutor said that the actions of the defendant Tiromsi Sitanggang, a resident of Jalan Gaperta, Medan Helvetia District, Medan City, were proven to violate Article 340 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) point 1 of the Criminal Code.
"The defendant's actions together with Grippa Sihotang (DPO) were deemed proven to have committed premeditated murder against the victim Rusman Maralen Situngkir," explained Risnawati.
Public Prosecutor Risnawati stated that there was not a single thing found that could mitigate the defendant Tiromsi Sitanggang's sentence.
On the contrary, he said, there were a number of aggravating factors, including the background of the defendant Tiromsi Sitanggang as an academic with a doctorate in law.
"The aggravating factor is that the defendant's actions took the life of the victim, who was her own husband, and the defendant did not admit to her actions," said Public Prosecutor Risnawati.
After hearing the demands from the Medan District Attorney's Office Public Prosecutor, Chief Judge Eti Astuti postponed the trial until next week.
"The trial is postponed and will continue next week with the agenda of the defendant's and his legal advisor's defense notes," said Judge Eti Astuti.
Public Prosecutor Risnawati Ginting stated in her indictment that the defendant Tiromsi Sitanggang together with Grippa Sihotang (DPO) were suspected of planning the murder of her husband Rusman Maralen Situngkir since February 2024.
"Before committing the murder, the defendant secretly registered her husband as a life insurance policy holder at PT Prudential Life Assurance with a claim value of IDR 500 million," said Public Prosecutor Risnawati.
