85-year-old woman loses home in fire allegedly caused by a rocket

Tijuana, December 24. A fire allegedly caused by a rocket burned down the home of an 85-year-old woman in the Terrazas del Valle neighborhood.

During the fire, two people suffered smoke poisoning and were taken to a hospital for medical treatment. A vehicle at the house was also burned, and another nearby home was damaged.

According to witnesses, the flames erupted in the home when a person set off a rocket on Santa Anita Street and Paseo de las Lomas Avenue.

The woman was inside the home when the fire started, but her son helped her out the back door as the flames consumed the entire house.

The incident occurred while the Tijuana City Council and the state government are conducting an intensive campaign against the use of fireworks, citing the risk of fires, injuries, and even deaths, as well as the pollution generated by burning.

Article 28 of the Regulations for the Prevention and Control of Noise prohibits the use of rockets, explosives, firecrackers, and other objects, substances, or things of a similar nature throughout the municipality of Tijuana.
