90% of road accidents in Tijuana are due to drunk driving.

Tijuana, December 12. What was initially mistaken for a fatal accident on Insurgentes Boulevard turned out to be a simulated traffic accident to raise awareness among drivers, as part of the "Drinking and Driving Is Bad" campaign.

“Today we conducted an accident drill, but if we're not aware, this can happen to any of us, friends, or family members. That's why we're urging everyone to take care of their own lives and the lives of others,” said Councilman Miguel Loza, who is president of the Recreation, Entertainment, and Alcohol Commission at the Tijuana City Council.

Participants used two vehicles to simulate a crash in which a person had been trapped. Medik 2000 paramedics participated in the rescue process.

The Traffic Department, the Experts Department, the Municipal Police, and the Municipal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection were present at this drill.

The mayor indicated that 50 car accidents occur in Tijuana every day , 90 percent of which are associated with alcohol consumption, and two people die each week from being involved in these incidents.

He recalled that fines can reach 20,000 pesos for those who drive under the influence of alcohol.

He recommended that the public wear seat belts, avoid driving while intoxicated, use alternative means of transportation, and have a designated driver.
