AMLO reaffirms support for combating crime in Baja California.

Mexicali, October 15.- The federal government will continue working with state and municipal authorities to combat crime, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured during the inauguration of a National Guard barracks in Mexicali, the fifth in the state.

"We will continue to make a joint effort with local authorities and the federal government to guarantee the peace and tranquility that the citizens of Baja California deserve. We will help reduce crime rates in all municipalities because these are different times. Impunity is not allowed," the president said at the first event of his three-day tour of the state.

He explained that this is the fifth of 12 National Guard barracks that Baja California will have, and after praising the work of the outgoing governor, Jaime Bonilla Valdez, for having performed "with responsibility, honesty, and hard work," he assured that he will continue to support the state with the next governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda.

For his part, the head of the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), Luis Cresencio Sandoval, highlighted that more than 2,000 members of the corporation are assigned to the entity, in addition to 1,800 who arrived from other entities to support crime prevention and emergency response efforts.

Regarding the National Guard elements, he explained that they are under the command of a state coordination unit, five regional coordination units, a road and facility security battalion, and a field company. 

Regarding the GN barracks, he explained that the one in Mexicali joins those already in Tijuana, Rosarito Beach, Vicente Guerrero in San Quintín, and Ensenada, and the plan is to have 12 throughout the state.
