Mexico City, September 15.- The acquittal of José Luis Abarca, former mayor of Iguala, of the direct accusation against him for the disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa student teachers (Santiago de Ayotzinapa) stems from a case conducted by the Specialized Subprosecutor's Office for the Investigation of Organized Crime (SEIDO) since 2015.
Meanwhile, the investigation currently being conducted by the Specialized Unit for Investigation and Litigation of the Ayotzinapa Case (UEILCA) is still a "pending process," said Alejandro Encinas, Undersecretary of Human Rights, Population, and Migration of the Ministry of the Interior.
Through social media, the federal official stated this Thursday: "Judge Samuel Ventura Ramos's ruling, which seeks to exonerate those allegedly responsible for the disappearance of the 43, was an accusation made by SEIDO in 2015. The investigation currently being conducted by the UEILCA for the crime of forced disappearance is a pending process."
