The Ministry of Communication and Digital has stated that every electronic system provider or digital platform operating in Indonesia is required to provide parental control features in an effort to protect children in the digital space.
Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning Governance of Electronic System Implementation in Child Protection or PP Tunas mandates digital platform providers to provide child protection features in the digital space.
"We encourage digital platforms to provide easy-to-use safety features, including age classification systems and parental controls. These are not just additional features, but key instruments for child protection," said Fifi Aleyda Yahya, Director General of Public Communication and Media at the Ministry of Communication and Digital, in a press statement.
According to PP Tunas, Fifi explained, every electronic system provider (PSE) is required to provide easy-to-understand and easy-to-use parental control features so that parents can accompany and monitor their children when using digital spaces.
This way, parents can monitor and set restrictions to ensure their children access age-appropriate content.
"Features like parental controls and age classification give parents greater control, while also providing peace of mind that children are exploring a safe digital space," said Fifi.
He stated that PSE must also comply with other provisions aimed at protecting children in the digital space, such as implementing privacy settings for children's digital accounts and not tracking their location or profiling their data for commercial purposes.
Fifi stated that the Tunas PP was implemented to ensure children's safety in the digital space, preventing children from being exposed to negative content in cyberspace.
