Tijuana, November 16.- The medical and administrative staff of the Tijuana Maternal and Child Hospital announced that from November 11, 2022, to the present, they continue to work under protest, since they have not received a response from Francisco Javier Escobar Montoya, general director of the Baja California Medical Specialties Unit (UNEME), regarding the conditions of the dismissal of approximately 300 health workers that took place on November 8.
The Tijuana Maternal and Child Hospital was withdrawn from UNEME and incorporated into the Public Health Services Institute of the State of Baja California (ISESALUD) system as of January 1, 2022. This was decreed by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda and published in the Official Gazette No. 101 of the State of Baja California on December 9, 2021.
Below is the position statement of the medical and administrative staff of the Tijuana Maternal and Child Hospital:
We are currently working under unsafe conditions, as there has been no detailed information yet on how UNEME will terminate our employment, nor on how we will be hired by ISESALUD starting January 1, 2023. We also fear that UNEME will violate our rights and unfairly dismiss our employees, as happened with the people responsible for calculating our payroll last Tuesday, November 8, by Mr. Luis Alberto Covarrubias Yáñez and Ms. Isabel Cristina Hernández Salinas, both UNEME employees.
