This came in a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report issued on Friday, which officially confirmed that "famine in the Gaza Strip has become a reality."
Cairo expressed "deep concern" over the growing international reports of famine, stressing that the report reflects the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe facing Gaza's residents following 22 months of brutal Israeli warfare and the accompanying crimes against innocent civilians.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stressed that the international community must "assume its responsibilities to halt the blatant violations that have caused this tragic situation," calling for "immediate and decisive intervention to halt Israel's continued restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid, despite its availability and ability to end the famine as quickly as possible."
The statement emphasized that the international community bears "moral and political responsibility for the situation that has deteriorated as a result of duplicitous policies and selective standards that have marginalized the universality of human rights, while their most basic values have been disregarded in Israel's ongoing war against a defenseless people who lack the means to survive."
Egypt also commended the statements of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in which he described the famine in the Gaza Strip as a "man-made catastrophe and a failure of humanity," affirming Israel's obligations under international law as an occupying power to ensure the flow of medical and food supplies to the population of Gaza.
