X owner Elon Musk announced that the social media platform plans to insert advertisements in the responses of their artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Grok.
According to a Financial Times report, as reported by Tech Crunch on Friday, Elon Musk made the announcement during a live discussion with advertisers on Wednesday. The move is intended to revive X's advertising business, which has been sluggish following the resignation of its previous CEO, Linda Yaccarino.
"Our focus has been on making Grok the smartest and most accurate AI in the world, and I think we've largely succeeded. So now we're going to turn our attention to how to finance those expensive GPUs," Elon said.
Musk said that advertisers will eventually be able to pay to have their brands appear in the suggestions Grok provides when users ask questions.
