Governor Marina del Pilar acknowledges progress in welfare on Constituent Assembly Day in Baja California.

Tijuana, December 22. “In the last meeting we had with the new prosecutor, María Elena Andrade, we told her it was important to send the real figures of missing persons to Mexico and she said it was in the process, but until now we see that it is not true, they continue to hide the numbers from Baja California ,” said Angélica Ramírez, of the collective Una Nación Buscando T, when questioned about the real figures of missing persons in the state.

According to search groups in Baja California, there are a total of 18,000 missing people in the state , and together with organizations across the country, they rejected the figure given by the president of the republic, based on the national census that was conducted.

Ramírez believes the census process was re-victimizing for the families of the disappeared because they were not consulted at any point and the process was conducted without a detailed explanation of how the official figures were arrived at.

"This census procedure didn't involve any families or groups working alongside the census. We're not against the census, but we are against the re-victimization of families," explained the representative of the Una Nación Buscando T collective.
