In analysis, return to in-person classes in Mexicali due to high temperatures

Mexicali, August 7. The return to classes for 599,425 elementary school students in the state is scheduled for August 26; however, the appropriateness of returning to classrooms in Mexicali that same day is being analyzed due to the currently high temperatures.

"We will decide with the governor a week in advance where we will have the option of online education," said Education Secretary Luis Gilberto Gallego Cortez.

It's worth noting that a health alert was issued in Mexicali starting Wednesday due to the 37 heat-related deaths.

Gallego Cortez said that at the high school level, the return to classes is September 16 for the state subsystem and September 26 for the federal system.

The state official said that at the university level, 149,165 students will return to classes on different dates.

At the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), they will return on August 12; the technological institutes will return on the 16th; and the Pedagogical University will return on September 6.
