Jorge Heras's main attacker arrested; police paid him 5,000 pesos

Mexicali, August 29. Manuel "N," alias El Cholo, who served a sentence for murder in the Hongo prison and the main perpetrator of the murder of journalist Jorge Heras, was arrested this Friday in the Progreso neighborhood of Mexicali, announced the state's attorney general, María Elena Andrade Ramírez.

The head of the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) reported that, according to the first investigations, the police officer Hugo "N", arrested the same day of the attack, is the material author of the attack since he would have paid 5 thousand pesos to El Cholo and Hernán "N", El Flaco, the other person responsible for the attack perpetrated last Tuesday when the journalist arrived at the facilities of the production company where Heras broadcast the program Ciudad Capital.

He reported that the main aggressor is charged with aggravated injuries—with possible aggravating factors of treachery and advantage—as well as gang membership.

Regarding police officer Hugo "N," who drove the vehicle in which the attackers fled on the day of the attack, the prosecutor reported that weapons and fragmentation grenades were found in his home, so the Ministry of Defense was notified. They are awaiting a ruling from the Attorney General's Office to determine whether the weapons were used in any crime.
