Local deputies will propose to the Congress of the Union the exhibition of films with audio description.

Mexicali, February 11. The representatives of the Baja California Congress unanimously approved the resolution to submit to the Congress of the Union an initiative to reform the Federal Cinematography Law .

The proposal by local legislator Araceli Geraldo Núñez aims to require films shown in movie theaters to be dubbed into Spanish and include audio description to guarantee the right to accessibility for people with visual impairments.

The local congresswoman stated that a person with a permanent visual impairment had complained about the fact that accessibility measures were being considered for people with hearing impairments, but not for the segment of the population to which she belongs.

He indicated that his initiative is based on the ruling of the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), which determined that a relative legislative omission had occurred, rendering Article 8 of the Federal Cinematography Law unconstitutional.
