Mexico City. The absence of support groups around the capital's Congress during Claudia Sheinbaum's State of the Union address didn't prevent a festive atmosphere, with only legislators and guests present. The cordiality demonstrated with hugs and kisses broke with the social distancing recommendations issued by the board of directors to prevent contagion.
In addition to the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, who attended on behalf of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the local executive branch was accompanied by five heads of state secretariats, including Tatiana Clouthier of the Economy; Jorge Arganis of Communications and Transportation; and Alejandra Frausto of Culture.
Also in attendance were Senate President Olga Sánchez Cordero, and the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Gutiérrez; the governors-elect of Tlaxcala, Colima, Guerrero, and Baja California; the governors of Morelos and the State of Mexico; and UNAM Rector Enrique Graue; business leaders and cultural figures.
The exterior steps of the building, the lobby, and the central hallway of the plenary hall were places of reunion, filled with selfies and the cameras of institutional and press photographers. Among the most sought-after guests was Rosa Icela Rodríguez, who also received warm greetings from Morena supporters and opposition members.
