Mexicali, May 9.- In response to the wave of migration that represented 2,767 people, the Mexicali City Council opened 12 shelters, where 6 million pesos were spent.
The above was stated by the municipal president, Norma Bustamante, during a presentation she gave on the immigration issue at a session of the Madrugadores (Morning Ripper).
He said the City Council lacks the resources to address the waves of migration, so he will propose a Migrant Assistance Center to the Federation.
He acknowledged that there were no earmarked funds to address the immigration issue, so they had to use extraordinary funds from the Municipal DIF.
The City Councilwoman said that during the migration crisis in Mexicali, she requested that federal aid be sent directly to the city council and not through the state government, but there was no response.
Bustamante Martínez said the budget issue is the most serious problem in addressing migration and security.
He reiterated that a center funded with well-allocated federal resources is necessary.
