More than half of workers suffer from stress

In the last two years, six out of 10 workers have suffered work-related stress due to overwork, unusually long hours, poor organization, and inadequate leadership, according to a study by the Internet Association of Mexico (AIMX) and the online job board OCC Mundial.

Furthermore, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this condition has increased among half of professionals, primarily due to fear of losing their jobs. Meanwhile, 42 percent said it is due to the fear of contracting the virus in the office; 34 percent due to the need to earn extra income; 33 percent due to increased performance demands; and 30 percent due to disregarded working hours, according to the Workplace Stress in Mexico report.

This assessment coincides with the confidence barometer of the consulting firm Edelman, which revealed that 67 percent of Mexicans surveyed said they were more afraid of losing their jobs than of contracting Covid-19 (49 percent).

“After a year and a half of the pandemic, companies have adopted new work arrangements, which has increased stress among employees and managers. According to the WHO, Mexico is the country with the highest work-related stress , and a study by the International Labor Organization reveals that 41 percent of people who work from home feel stressed,” said Sergio Porragas, vice president of Human Capital at AIMX.
