Experienced Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic has officially joined Sassuolo and become the new teammate of Indonesian national team captain Jay Idzes.
The 37-year-old has signed a contract until the summer of 2026, with the option of a further year after completing his contract with Ligue 1 club Lyon.
"Nemanja Matic, welcome to the green and black team!" Sassuolo announced on its official website on Tuesday.
Matic's transfer adds to Sassuolo's list of new signings in this summer's transfer window, which has already brought in at least ten players, including Jay Idzes from Venezia.
Matic's presence is expected to strengthen Sassuolo's midfield, which was just promoted to Serie A this season, under the tutelage of coach Fabio Grosso.
Matic brings a wealth of experience having played for major clubs such as Benfica, Chelsea, Manchester United, and AS Roma, winning numerous trophies, including two Premier League titles.
After a 0-2 defeat to Napoli in their opening match of the 2025/26 Serie A season, Sassuolo are hoping Matic can make a significant contribution.
He could make his debut this weekend when Sassuolo travel to Cremonese.
