Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria is encouraging the use of new technologies such as artificial intelligence to build stronger digital defenses for the public.
"As of mid-2025, we have recorded 1.2 million reports of digital fraud, and these figures are not just statistics; they are a warning that we must act quickly," he said in Central Jakarta on Thursday.
Nezar stated that the financial losses due to cybercrime from November 2024 to January 2025 reached IDR 476 billion.
Therefore, the presence of new technologies must be utilized to provide solutions to crucial problems such as cybercrime.
"We must ensure that new technologies or deep tech like artificial intelligence and machine learning are not just buzzwords in our innovation efforts but are truly solutions to crucial problems, such as digital security," he said.
As part of its efforts to combat cybercrime, the Ministry of Communication and Digital is collaborating with the Cyber Crime Directorate of the Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) to identify and expose online fraudsters.
