Indonesian women's singles badminton player Putri Kusuma Wardhani has followed her compatriot Gregoria Mariska Tunjung into the round of 16 of the 2025 Badminton World Championships.
This certainty was obtained after Putri KW defeated Brazilian singles player Juliana Viana Vieira in two straight games 21-15, 21-11 in the round of 32 match at the Adidas Arena, Paris, Wednesday evening WIB.
Despite winning, Putri KW admitted that she had quite a hard time dealing with the pressure and variety of attacks that Juliana carried out throughout the match.
"I felt a little pressure in today's match because Juliana plays quite well and often makes things difficult for her opponents, especially with her overhead balls, like her half- smashes and full-smashes ," said Putri KW, as quoted by PBSI.
"I was behind on point 11, so I changed my playing style a bit, dropping the ball more than lobbing to avoid his attacks," he said.
In the round of 16, Putri KW will meet Japanese singles player Tomoka Miyazaki, who previously defeated Taiwanese singles player Wen Chi Su in a three-game drama.
Facing Tomoka, the 23-year-old badminton player will prepare a strategy to play more safely because it could be made difficult by slightly windier court conditions.
"I'll be facing Tomoka Miyazaki in the future. The last time we met was at the Japan Open, and I won. The conditions here are a bit different; the court is windier, so I have to be more conservative," said Putri KW.
Facing Tomoka, Putri KW has a pretty good record, picking up two wins and one loss from the three meetings that have taken place throughout their careers.
