Tariffs on Mexican cars would increase costs for the US: Sheinbaum

Mexico City. President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized that she believes it is "very difficult" for the United States to impose tariffs on automobiles or auto parts manufactured in Mexico, as doing so would increase the cost of vehicles for the neighboring country.

He also claimed that political opponents of the movement he leads have called for a demonstration to demand that the National Electoral Institute (INE) " violate the Constitution " to prevent what they claim is an overrepresentation of Morena and its allies. He also ruled out a review of the Value Added Tax (VAT).

At a press conference at her transitional home, Sheinbaum Pardo addressed the recent announcement by Tesla CEO and owner Elon Musk, announcing the suspension of construction of the automaker's planned gigafactory in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, until the U.S. presidential elections are decided.

In this regard, he indicated that "we have to look at the Tesla issue in Mexico, because in reality, since the announcement was made to date , there hasn't been much progress either . We have to see if the reason is really the election and what Trump said in his presidential candidacy, or if it could be other reasons specific to Tesla ."
