The Trilateral Fentanyl Committee, comprised of the governments of Mexico, the United States, and Canada, will meet in early February in Mexico City, U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller announced yesterday, according to a statement released by the U.S. government.
Miller added that during the meeting held Friday in Washington between senior Mexican and U.S. officials, they discussed the positive impact of efforts to increase immigration controls on bus and train routes, crack down on criminal smuggling networks, and increase repatriations of those who do not have a legal basis to remain in our countries
.
He highlighted that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his delegation assured that coordinated efforts with Mexico are showing positive results on the shared border.
The spokesperson said the delegations led by Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena and Blinken reaffirmed the importance of continuing to expand legal avenues and job opportunities, including between the two countries.
